Spokes-Women Celebates 20th Anniversary in July
by Carmela Parker
This club started with five women meeting in a diner in 1989 to form the New Jersey Chapter of the American Women Road Riding Alliance (AWRRA), a national women's motorcycle club. That group had grown to 17 when in 1992 we decided to separate from the national club and regroup locally as an independent club with a new name - Spokes-Women Motorcycle Club Inc., and a new logo - a quilter's patch called Mariner's Compass that represents the spokes in a motorcycle wheel as well as the points on the compass to which we ride.
Thus this year of 2012 is the twentieth anniversary of the formation of the Spokes-Women Motorcycle Club, Inc.
We will be celebrating the journey and enjoying the memories at an anniversary picnic on Saturday July 14th. A small donation will be requested to cover the cost of catered food, and this cost, as well as picnic location and time will be announced via email soon.
To aid in remembering all the rides and events of years past, we will have on display 20 years of pictures, newspaper articles, scrapbooks etc. If you have any old pictures or articles or anything reminiscent of our years together, please do bring them along to add to this trip down memory lane.
We extend an open invitation to all past members and friends of the club, so if you are a past member, or were every involved with the club in any way and would like to attend the anniversary celebration, please contact via email either Laura at LSHarley@yahoo.com or Janet at firstname.lastname@example.org or Carmela at email@example.com for further information.
