PRESIDENT'S CORNER

The Past, the Present and Our Future

I promised myself I wouldn't do this but here I am writing this at 11:00 p.m.  I'll hate myself in the morning and on my way home tomorrow when I have to stay alert to dodge the crazies on Route 1!  But I couldn't stand that article that's still up on our Newsletter site.  That's a very effective way to get me to do my article, Ms. Web Mistress/Newsletter Editor -- Donna, embarrass me to death!

Well, I rode Polar Bear Sunday and found a great road for our next trip to New Hope or maybe Lambertsville for a change.  I'll keep the details a surprise for the summer of 2002.  I was setting up the schedule for our meetings in 2002.  The only conflict with our "regulation meeting day " -- the second Sunday of the month -- appeared to be Mother's day.  But then I went on line to check on our Big Rides, which are all in June, and we'll have to change the June meeting date too.

I was really disappointed that I could not get registration forms on line for the Big Rides now!  Americade at Lake George, NY is June 3-8.  I do have my room already!  The Honda Hoot, its second year in Knoxville, TN, is June 19-22.  The Mid Atlantic Women's Motorcycle Rally at the Francis Scott Key in Ocean City, MD is June 20-22.  And the Third AMA Women & Motorcycling Conference is June 29 to July 3 at Wesleyan College in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in beautiful West Virginie!  I printed out the directions!  I also IM'd with Judy while I was checking out the Big Rides.  She hopes to do her "Autumn in VT" trip in August this year.  And the Lord said, "This is good.  Your co-workers and families will have a chance to get to know you again after June."    Then there's the Seafood Festival in Belmar and the Ship Inn and another ERC in Sea Girt.  Then Trick-or-Suite for Halloween.

But wait a minute.  We have all winter to ride Polar Bear!  Six Spokes-Women members are now riding -- Jane and Walt Kern, Christine Stewart, Laura Sisto, Marlene Smith, yours truly and a soon to be Spokes-Woman, Gloria Fidler, which will make seven!  We picked Gloria up on Route 202 on the way to the Corn Boil and she jumped right in, flippin' hamburgers with the best of us.  Gloria rides Polar Bear without electrics or a windshield!

We will install our officers for the year 2002 at our Holiday Party this Sunday, December 9.  We are looking forward to a full house at Buzzy's.  Roe McCracken, Kim Jancewicz and I will spend another year as your VP, Secretary and Pres., respectively.  Donna Warren has just got our web site remodeled and conceived and gave birth to our electronic Newsletter.  Newbie Board members Marlene Smith and Lauri Travis will be Treasurer and Membership Chair, respectively.  We will all take turns being Road Captain!  Pick a ride -- any ride -- any where!

Now coming full circle, here are the meeting dates for 2002: 1/13, 2/10, 3/10, 4/14, 5/5 (because of Mother's Day on the 12th), 6/16 (because of Americade), 7/14, 8/11, 9/8, 10/13, 11/10 and 12/ 8.  We will continue to meet at the American Legion in Piscataway on the corner of Washington Avenue and Summers Street.   We will try to have July's meeting at the Quarry.  Our two attempts this year were rained out big time!  The meetings from May to September will begin at 9:00 a.m. so we can ride.  From January to April and in October and November the meetings will begin at 10:00 a.m.  The time and place for our Holiday Party in December will be determined in the Fall.  We had a wonderful year and we can look forward to lots of good rides and fun in 2002.  See you Sunday!  Remember your Grab Bag gift - $15.00.
